On Thursday August 16, 2007, a
group of five Penn State Berks students offered their
assistance to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is
currently building a pair of duplexes in Fleetwood, P.A and
gratefully accepts volunteer help. The students aided in the
installation of siding, the fitting of the porch soffits and
unloading drywall from the truck.
These five students, Walter
Davidson, 17, Ewing, N.J., Steven Hughes, 19, Oley, P.A.,
Timothy Nichols, 18, Oxford, P.A., Andrew Rodney, 18,
Pennington, N.J. and Jonathan Ruffini, 18, West Grove, P.A
are enrolled in Penn State Berks' Building for Tomorrow
course. This course is being instructed by John Gallagher,
assistant director of student affairs.
The Building for Tomorrow
course is a pre-orientation class for first-year students.
The course includes several community services projects. In
addition to working for Habit for Humanity, the students
also volunteered on Friday, Aug. 17 at the YMCA of Reading
and Berks County working with children from age 4 years to
12 and on Saturday, Aug. 18, the students also volunteered
to do trail maintenance at Nolde Forest State Park.
